ROUTEBURN TRACK
ACCOMMODATION
IN GLENORCHY

ONE MORE NIGHT IN THE MOUNTAINS

Doing the Routeburn Track this season? Don’t rush a good thing, stay with us! We’re a popular licensed wood-fired restaurant and mountaineering hut style accommodation — designed and built by trampers with little touches here and there to create the perfect mountaineering base camp.

THE PERFECT START OR FINISH

Here in Glenorchy, we are only a 30 minute drive from the Routeburn Shelter — the start or finish point for the Routeburn depending on the direction you are walking.

START WITH US

Spend a night in the mountains and hit the ground running. We’ll pick you up from Queenstown Dine at our wood-fired restaurant ahead of a night in a cosy cabin and rise to a nutritious protein-rich breakfast before your transfer to the Routeburn shelter to begin your mission.

END WITH US

No need to rush back to civilisation, we’ll pick you up from the Routeburn Shelter and take you back to ours for a hot shower and sauna ahead of a night of fun in our restaurant & bar, retire to one of our cosy mountaineer’s huts and wake up to breakfast before your transfer back to Queenstown.

THE ULTIMATE HIKING BASE

As hikers ourselves, we’ve put a lot of thought into what makes for the perfect tramping base — from our unique approach to our accommodation and restaurant to handy additions like our drying room, sauna, laundry, trail food & supplies, 4×4 track transfers and so much more.

OUR CABINS

Our award-winning cabins are inspired by the historic mountaineer’s huts that typify the New Zealand Southern Alps, complete with wood-burners and a variety of bunk configurations and a few added comforts that make all the difference.

WOOD-FIRED RESTAURANT

We think of our restaurant a little differently, it’s much more like dining at our place. We cook everything over wood-fire and serve it on a long table in the cast iron pots it was prepared in — so you can share a table, food and stories with interesting mountain loving people like yourself.

GOOGLE REVIEWS

Liz, Dough and Caroline were the most warm and welcoming people we came across our whole trip. They welcomed us with warm hospitality and never failed to make us feel comfortable. Liz made the most incredible meal and dessert, while we sat and spoke to Caroline. Doug then came and did the breakfast shift and sat and spoke to us and they were so excited to hear about our adventures. We really feel like we made 3 beautiful friends and will 100% be back on our next ski trip and will recommend the base camp to anyone who adventures down to the South Island. Such beautiful incredible people and such a comfortable, modern and gorgeous cabins they have designed.
Utterly recommended, everything is at top. I'll start from the bathrooms heated floors (argh... what a feeling! as my hotel Casa Howard in Florence) and the personal cast iron firestoves in every room. Great sleeping on super beds. High level of privacy. Then, the common room internal and external: a wide but cozy space where i can enjoy a well done breakfast or a fine dining. Last but not least: such a kind, love hearty staff and its boss Dough make a huge difference. Hope to meet again, Dough! Come visit us in Tuscany
This place is truly unbeatable. We stayed here for two nights for our wedding in March, and it was perfect in every way – it had stunning views, a very cosy cabin and amazing food. We had the best day with a heli hike up into the mountains led by Jon and we couldn’t have asked for more. The food on both nights was excellent, with a chocolate pudding which was so outrageously good! We really enjoyed meeting all the people staying at the same time as us and hearing about everyone’s adventures. Thank you so much to Doug and Liz for giving us such a wonderful stay.
We absolutely loved our stay here. We were pleasantly surprised with the authenticity of the lodge and the accommodation - the photos just do not reflect how special it is. Doug and Liz were incredible hosts, making a very warm and family-like environment. We had one of the best meals of our lives gathered round the dining table with the other guests, then toasting marshmallows on the outdoor fire. We made friends with another guest who we are still in contact with now. Our cabin was everything we dreamed of and more with its own log burner, heated underflooring in the bathroom and a very cosy vibe with the wind blowing outside! We even woke up to fresh snow capped mountains. Our only regret is staying for just the one night - we will 100% be back, booking mountaineering excursions whilst we are there too, Thanks so much Doug and Liz - we'll be back!
The only regret my wife and I have about staying here was that we only stayed for one night! What an absolutely magical place. We have been in NZ for 1.5 weeks (here for a total of 3 weeks) and The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp was the highlight of our trip. Doug and Liz are the best hosts you could ask for. As soon as we stepped through the door, it was like we were being welcomed into their own home. Liz is such an amazing cook. The dinner we had was incredible. The best meal we have had in NZ. Will definitely be buying her cookbook in the future. Doug felt like your favourite uncle who you just chill and listen to great music with by the fire. He made us feel extremely welcome. We are planning on coming back in the near future and this time we will be spending more time there and doing some of the great activities they have on offer. The cabin so cozy and comfortable. The heated bathroom floor was an added bonus for those chilly autumn nights. Cannot fault this place at all. Do yourself a favour. On your next trip to Queenstown, skip the busy city and venture out to Glenorchy and enjoy the peace and quiet surrounded by beauty. This is a must stay for everyone. Cannot wait to tell our friends and family about it when we get home. Thank you for a fantastic stay, Doug and Liz. We will see you soon.
