Had the absolute pleasure of staying at GABC a few weeks back with a couple of mates. What Doug, Liz and their team have created is something very special. The ability to create a homely vibe and bring strangers together for a wonderful meal is incredible. We didn’t get an experience a safari up into the mountains but it’s definitely on the cards for next time. Can’t wait to stay again and bring some crew over from Melbourne to experience base camp. Such a warm and welcoming experience
We had such a wonderful evening at Glenorchy Base Camp for dinner.
From the moment we arrived, Liz and Isla were so warm, welcoming and friendly, making us feel completely at home.
The food was amazing and beautifully cooked, and there was so much of it! Everything was delicious and incredibly generous, we definitely couldn’t eat it all!
Our kids absolutely loved the chocolate pudding, which was a definite highlight for them. It was such a lovely experience and something completely different from a typical restaurant dinner.
A really special evening, with delicious food, generous hospitality and such a warm atmosphere.
We would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Glenorchy.
Oh man oh man what an experience. This is New Zealand hospitality at its finest. It feels like you’re going to your best friend that you haven’t seen for ages house for dinner. I feel like if I had to sum up what New Zealand is to someone who was visiting our beautiful country then I would just send them to Liz and Doug. The camping experience, the accommodation and the shared dinner. You really can’t top that. Amazing work guys, you should be so proud with what you have created. It’s by far our most memorable time of our time in Queenstown. Thank you, thank you thank you!
This was like visiting friends we hadn’t met yet! We came for my husband’s 50th birthday. Liz and Doug made us feel so welcome. The cozy cabin was a delight - the wood burning stove is so charming, the beds were comfy and Mr tweens had a blast. Highly recommend booking a sauna session, too. The dinners were incredible and they went out of their way to make a special birthday celebration for us complete with a proper chocolate pudding.
Glenorchy is a stunner - an hour and a world away from the bustle of Queenstown.
We had the pleasure of meeting Doug and Liz to help celebrate a family members 50th Birthday.
From the get go the experience was exceptionally warm and enthusiastic. This passionate group of professionals created the perfect environment for our festivities.
Hand written menus and beautifully curated food set the stage for an amazing celebration.
Would recommend to anyone who values a true hospitality experience to make the trek here.

Technically ‘Food Over Fire’ is our licensed restaurant and at the same time we don’t quite look at it like that. It’s more like coming to dinner at our place.
Family style setting, everything is cooked over fire (very very slowly) and we do love to cook for you.
Eat with us at Base Camp
‘Food Over Fire’ is open to the public so you don’t have to stay to eat with us. Chef’s choice every night and at the same time there’s always something for everyone.
