This was like visiting friends we hadn’t met yet! We came for my husband’s 50th birthday. Liz and Doug made us feel so welcome. The cozy cabin was a delight - the wood burning stove is so charming, the beds were comfy and Mr tweens had a blast. Highly recommend booking a sauna session, too. The dinners were incredible and they went out of their way to make a special birthday celebration for us complete with a proper chocolate pudding.
Glenorchy is a stunner - an hour and a world away from the bustle of Queenstown.

From the get go the experience was exceptionally warm and enthusiastic. This passionate group of professionals created the perfect environment for our festivities.
Hand written menus and beautifully curated food set the stage for an amazing celebration.

A truly outstanding experience all round! Amazing hospitality from the whole team at base camp, coupled with some of the best food we have eaten in NZ! We had two nights at base camp in the cosy huts, and a night camping up the Dart Valley - a really special experience! Could not recommend enough!
Amazing time again with Doug & Liz.....cosy rooms, falling alseep by the fire (safe as!), delicious food and memorable dining experience...always meet someone new and interesting.

Technically ‘Food Over Fire’ is our licensed restaurant and at the same time we don’t quite look at it like that. It’s more like coming to dinner at our place.
Family style setting, everything is cooked over fire (very very slowly) and we do love to cook for you.
Eat with us at Base Camp
‘Food Over Fire’ is open to the public so you don’t have to stay to eat with us. Chef’s choice every night and at the same time there’s always something for everyone.
