A true multi day ski touring off-track point A to point B expedition well and truly off the beaten (tourist) track.
Traditional canvas tents with woodfired tent heaters and camp beds for the two nights of snow camping in the high alpine zone.

Itinerary:
Day 1
Arrive at The Great Glenorchy Alpine base camp. Meet your guide and receive the adventure briefing. Dinner at our ‘Base Camp Food Over Fire’ woodfired restaurant before a night with us at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp.
Day 2
A light breakfast with us and then transfers to the nearby heli port with your
guide. The drop-off point will be at the bigining of what will be a big day. Your troupe will work along a sequence of range terraces, exploring crags and mountain tops along the way. The terrain includes various. It is pretty special up there, stunning in fact, and it is well and truly off the (tourist) tracks.
Today’s ski tour will conclude with your arrival to an already set up and quite
traditional canvas tented camp. You and your guide will work together lighting the fires and cook the evening meal with your help. Spirits are normally quite high. We expect you will sleep the sleep of ‘the just and the innocent’.
Day 3
Breakfast at the camp and everyone will be keen to get moving and warm
up. A bigger ski tour is in store for this day with options to include a summit attempt.
This day’s destination will be camp 2 (same setup, different location), another great meal and another great sleep.
Day 4
Breakfast and a brisk ski tour workout to a large high alpine tarn where a swim will be encouraged. The heli pickup will be early afternoon and back to a hero’s welcome at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp. Sauna, roaring fires, bar, dinner at ‘Food Over Fire’ and your cosy mountaineer’s hut for the final night.

We stayed at the Base Camp over the holidays and a month or so later, I continue to revisit the experience my wife and I had there and the incredible joy it brought us. It was humbling and awe inspiring to have the privilege to be among some of the most spectacular nature in the world. The two-day hiking trip we did with Doug was nothing short of magical - it felt like an incredible gift. And the base camp was equally special in it's own right, imbued as it is with Liz's warmth and hospitality (not to mention wonderful food). But as much as anything, the opportunity to connect with such great people, including Doug and Liz but also the fellow travelers we met, really set the experience apart. There are lots of incredible places in the world, but nothing is as memorable or meaningful as creating connections with other people, and Doug and Liz have created a very special environment to do that. We're so grateful we had the opportunity to experience this amazing place in such a special way.
One of the best places we stayed in New Zealand was the Alpine Base Camp. The cabins are cozy and well-designed. Liz and Doug exude Kiwi hospitality and FUN, they really want you to enjoy what they've built and the surroundings, they have such love and appreciation for the mountains and Glenorchy. A nice fire was prepared, we had an amazing sauna, and I still dream about Liz's excellent meal - it was mouth-watering delicious. We wish we stayed longer.
Great place, very good food! We spent an evening there meeting very interesting people for food and conversations. The rooms looked lovely by we did not stay there. The whole concept is based on open communication and people meeting there. Staff super nice and the owners too!
