Utterly recommended, everything is at top.
I'll start from the bathrooms heated floors (argh... what a feeling! as my hotel Casa Howard in Florence) and the personal cast iron firestoves in every room. Great sleeping on super beds. High level of privacy.
Then, the common room internal and external: a wide but cozy space where i can enjoy a well done breakfast or a fine dining.
Last but not least: such a kind, love hearty staff and its boss Dough make a huge difference. Hope to meet again, Dough! Come visit us in Tuscany

A true multi day ski touring off-track point A to point B expedition well and truly off the beaten (tourist) track.
Traditional canvas tents with woodfired tent heaters and camp beds for the two nights of snow camping in the high alpine zone.

Itinerary:
Day 1
Arrive at The Great Glenorchy Alpine base camp. Meet your guide and receive the adventure briefing. Dinner at our ‘Base Camp Food Over Fire’ woodfired restaurant before a night with us at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp.
Day 2
A light breakfast with us and then transfers to the nearby heli port with your
guide. The drop-off point will be at the bigining of what will be a big day. Your troupe will work along a sequence of range terraces, exploring crags and mountain tops along the way. The terrain includes various. It is pretty special up there, stunning in fact, and it is well and truly off the (tourist) tracks.
Today’s ski tour will conclude with your arrival to an already set up and quite
traditional canvas tented camp. You and your guide will work together lighting the fires and cook the evening meal with your help. Spirits are normally quite high. We expect you will sleep the sleep of ‘the just and the innocent’.
Day 3
Breakfast at the camp and everyone will be keen to get moving and warm
up. A bigger ski tour is in store for this day with options to include a summit attempt.
This day’s destination will be camp 2 (same setup, different location), another great meal and another great sleep.
Day 4
Breakfast and a brisk ski tour workout to a large high alpine tarn where a swim will be encouraged. The heli pickup will be early afternoon and back to a hero’s welcome at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp. Sauna, roaring fires, bar, dinner at ‘Food Over Fire’ and your cosy mountaineer’s hut for the final night.

This place is truly unbeatable. We stayed here for two nights for our wedding in March, and it was perfect in every way – it had stunning views, a very cosy cabin and amazing food. We had the best day with a heli hike up into the mountains led by Jon and we couldn’t have asked for more. The food on both nights was excellent, with a chocolate pudding which was so outrageously good! We really enjoyed meeting all the people staying at the same time as us and hearing about everyone’s adventures. Thank you so much to Doug and Liz for giving us such a wonderful stay.
We absolutely loved our stay here. We were pleasantly surprised with the authenticity of the lodge and the accommodation - the photos just do not reflect how special it is.
Doug and Liz were incredible hosts, making a very warm and family-like environment. We had one of the best meals of our lives gathered round the dining table with the other guests, then toasting marshmallows on the outdoor fire. We made friends with another guest who we are still in contact with now.
Our cabin was everything we dreamed of and more with its own log burner, heated underflooring in the bathroom and a very cosy vibe with the wind blowing outside! We even woke up to fresh snow capped mountains.
Our only regret is staying for just the one night - we will 100% be back, booking mountaineering excursions whilst we are there too,

The only regret my wife and I have about staying here was that we only stayed for one night!
What an absolutely magical place. We have been in NZ for 1.5 weeks (here for a total of 3 weeks) and The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp was the highlight of our trip. Doug and Liz are the best hosts you could ask for.
As soon as we stepped through the door, it was like we were being welcomed into their own home.
Liz is such an amazing cook. The dinner we had was incredible. The best meal we have had in NZ. Will definitely be buying her cookbook in the future.
Doug felt like your favourite uncle who you just chill and listen to great music with by the fire. He made us feel extremely welcome.
We are planning on coming back in the near future and this time we will be spending more time there and doing some of the great activities they have on offer.
The cabin so cozy and comfortable. The heated bathroom floor was an added bonus for those chilly autumn nights.
Cannot fault this place at all.
Do yourself a favour. On your next trip to Queenstown, skip the busy city and venture out to Glenorchy and enjoy the peace and quiet surrounded by beauty. This is a must stay for everyone. Cannot wait to tell our friends and family about it when we get home.

The most amazing Kiwi experience in beautiful Glenorchy. Immediately welcoming courtesy of the team and made to feel like your own piece of high country base camp. If you're lucky you'll get to meet the owners Liz (best wood fire chef ever) and Doug, who together have created an awesome unique space, and a platform for truly life changing adventures (they talk with you and help you plan anything from day walks and family picnics through to heli hiking, mountain traverses and cliff top glamping) but also just good old fashioned family or couple time together at the camp. Stand around the fire and share stories with other guests (all with a common appreciation for the wilderness) and the team then head inside for an incredible meal of slow cooked goodness! Cabins are super cosy with wood fires, comfy beds and even hot water bottles! Glenorchy is a yesteryear place and The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp is an essential stop for any trip to Queenstown. Don't miss this place!
