Glamping — but for adventurers. Gather your mates and get ready for a winter’s night to remember high in the mountains of The UNESCO World Heritage Area. Suitable for beginner adventurers, this private guided experience includes helicopter transfers, a night in cosy canvas tents (heated by a wood-burning fire), and the chance to learn new skills like snow shoeing, ice axe techniques, and snow caving — An expedition with the hard work taken out (and a touch of luxury added in).

ITINERARY
Day One:
Arrive at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp and get settled in. You’ll meet your guide who will brief you in and check your gear. We have a licensed wood-fired restaurant ‘Base Camp Food Over Fire’, sauna, cosy mountaineer’s huts — everything you might need for a good night’s sleep ahead of tomorrow’s adventure.
Day Two:
Up nice and early, and after breakfast you’ll meet your guide and climb into one of our Defender 4X4’s to be shuttled to a nearby heli port. It’s a spectacular flight into the mountains of the UNESCO South West New Zealand World Heritage Area.
You will all get involved in setting up your high alpine camp. Once all set up, and after you’ve had some refreshments, you’ll begin your snow fun. You will be taught some new skills and put them to good use (snow cave making, snow shoeing, ice axe technique, how to fit and use crampons, introduction to high alpine safety and more).
Once back at your alpine snow camp base you will help with dinner preparations and enjoy spending time around the fire. The star gazing up there is next level too.
Day Three:
Light your fire before breakfast and then some more snow adventures and then break camp ahead of your return heli flight to Base Camp. We will all be waiting there for you. The fires will be on, sauna too, the bar will be open and your dinner will have been slow cooking all day.
You will enjoy your debrief with your guide (doesn’t take long) with enough time for you to freshen up for dinner before you retire to your cosy mountaineer’s hut.
Day Four:
Breakfast and take your time checking out in the morning, transfers to Queenstown Airport are available if required.
What to Expect
⋅ This is a beginner to intermediate-level experience, requiring some physical exertion and a readiness for guided outdoor activities.
⋅ You will be camping in an alpine region on a safe terrace with ample territory for you to explore together.
⋅ This trip is not suitable for young people (under the age of 18). If you’re adventuring with family, check out our family-friendly Snow Kingdom expedition.
⋅ You will be taught how to use technical equipment, like crampons and ice axes.
⋅ Your adventure will be in the ‘backcountry’ and far from any marked trails.
⋅ Your guide will be an expert New Zealand Alpine Guide with impeccable credentials. We take your safety very seriously.

FITNESS
This once-in-a-lifetime adventure is designed for adults (18+) with a reasonable level of fitness. It’s best described as beginner-to-intermediate level experience for outdoor enthusiasts.
