Overnight Heli Snow Camp

Heli – Camp – Snowshoe

Pricing from $1,750 per head

(Based on 4 pax and excluding GST and any transfers)

It might sound a bit scary … but it’s not. Our heavy canvas tents have wood fired heaters and there’s something ‘other world’ about a night camping in the snow. Our guides will keep you safe and we will make sure you all learn something too. Digging a snow cave, snow shoeing, correct use of an ice axe among other things.

Two full days and weather dependent. We can collect you  or you are free to meet us at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base camp. Before we meet you in person you will have already booked with us, received a packlist and we will know all about your experience, fitness among other important stuff. Any technical equipment you might require can be provided by us (hire).

This guided, catered and carefully curated adventure will suit couples and families of up to 5 with a nice wide age suitability and fitness requirement. Great for two or even three families of up to 5 – it seems to take the whole adventure to another level for the kids in particular.

ITINERARY

We can pick you up early in the morning – or if you have your own vehicle you can meet us at The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp. Either way, the drive is one of the most scenic in the world.

You will meet your guide and you will be briefed and your gear will be checked. All other technical gear will be fitted and supplied. Pre trip checks done, and you will jump in one of our Land Rover Defender 4X4’s and it’s off to the local heliport for your heli lift. You will fly through the beautiful Southern Alps to a mind blowing camping location in the high alpine zone.

On arrival at your camping spot, you will help build camp, including your own accommodation for the night – a heavyweight canvas tent, complete with wood fired heater inside to keep you toasty throughout the night. Our guide will teach you how to use your technical equipment once you’re up there and will lead you on a snow tramp for the afternoon. The high alpine zone is truly an incredibly special ‘other world’.

Back at camp you will help with the evening camp oven meal that our Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp team will have lovingly prepared for you. Your guide will have a great knowledge of astrology and constellations. There is no better viewing platform of the wonderful night sky than a mountain top. We will sneak hot water bottles into the stash, camp beds and mattresses will make your snow camping adventure something pretty special.

A hearty breakfast before breaking down camp and a few more hours to snowshoe or dig a snow cave before another helicopter flight back  to The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp. Freshen up, maybe a sauna, some refreshments .. before the trip back.

Note: There is no obligation on you and no cost when you press the ‘register interest’ button. Your registering interest will trigger one of our awesome team members contacting you to go through a few things and to do our best to make the adventure work for your particular group, group size, dates, adventure duration and any special requirements. No pressure, no fuss, nice and easy.
